The problem
This was a high-end microsuede sectional that had seen a lot of everyday use. The owners keep the seat and back cushion covers clean by taking them off and washing them, but the arms and the frame of a couch can't be removed. Those parts never got washed, so they were by far the dirtiest part of the couch, with dark, greasy wear on the arms and a gray line along the base.
The family has three dogs, so a lot of hair had built up under every seat cushion, where a regular vacuum doesn't reach.
What we did
- Took off all the cushions and removed the dog hair from the deck and the corners under them.
- Pre-treated the arms and the base, where the soil was heaviest, and worked them by hand.
- Cleaned the whole sectional and the loveseat with our hot-water extraction machine.
The result
The arms and the frame came back to the same light color as the cushions, and the couch was free of dog hair. You can see the difference on the arm and the base in the photos below.
